What is an ORCID? And should I get one?
“ORCID (http://orcid.org/) provides a persistent digital identifier that distinguishes you from every other researcher and, through integration in key research workflows such as manuscript and grant submission, supports automated linkages between you and your professional activities ensuring that your work is recognized.”
ORCID is short for Open Researcher and Contributor ID.
Registration is free and fast: you need only enter your name and email address and create a password. You need not have an official affiliation and there is no set of requirements to qualify as a researcher.
