Altmetric for Researchers

Have you heard of Altmetric?

“Knowing who’s talking about your research and what they’re saying is crucial in today’s increasingly online world. Ensuring your work is being accurately represented and interpreted, as well as getting to the right people at the right time, all plays an important factor its broader impact.

With altmetrics, you can start to track this information as soon as your research is published – meaning no waiting around for citations, and the chance to engage directly with the audiences who are interested in your work.”

How do Altmetric work?

Altmetric measure the number of times a research output gets: cited, tweeted about, liked, shared, bookmarked, viewed, downloaded, mentioned, favourited, reviewed, or discussed.

Altmetric looks for sources that link to scholarly content. In order to track online attention to a research output, it needs to have at least one unique scholarly identifier. A higher score indicates a larger amount of attention.

The different colors represent the different sources in which the research output has been mentioned. Note that the Altmetric score is a weighted count and not just a sum of all of the mentions.
