Workshop: data management in African Studies

This workshop is organized into three parts: 1. Infrastructure and Best Practice Examples, 2. Legal Perspectives, and 3. Perspectives from African Studies. The workshop is aimed at researchers and offers the opportunity to enter into a dialogue with legal experts and data archiving experts and will specifically address subject-specific questions.

The project re3data.org, Registry of Research Data Repositories, presents repositories in a web-based directory and provides an orientation over existing data collections.

Open Library of Humanities

At the Open Library of Humanities, open access publications are funded through a model of library partnership subsidies (LPS). This allows OLH to collectively fund the venue and its array of journals. Libraries can thereby support information infrastructure instead of simply purchasing journals.

New copyright law in Germany

As of 1st March 2018, a new copyright law comes into effect in Germany and will introduce new copyright rules for schools, universities, libraries and other educational institutions.

Video explaining Open Access publishing (in German)

The video (in German) gives an overview of the history of scholarly publishing and the origins of the Open Access movement. The “golden” and the “green” path are presented as strategies for open access publishing. The advantages and disadvantages of Open Access are discussed, especially with regard to Article Processing Charges.
