Funding agencies increasingly require their beneficiaries to make their research data accessible and reusable via research data repositories. However, uncertainties still exist in the management of research data in Africa Studies. On the one hand, the landscape of repositories and other data management infrastructure is very heterogeneous. Uncertainties also exist regarding the legal situation and the corresponding requirements when dealing with personal research data. In addition, in Africa Studies, research data management is considered particularly sensitive from a research ethics perspective.

This workshop is organized into three parts: 1. Infrastructure and Best Practice Examples, 2. Legal Perspectives, and 3. Perspectives from African Studies. The workshop is aimed at researchers and offers the opportunity to enter into a dialogue with legal experts and data archiving experts and will specifically address subject-specific questions.
